Three questions with OU's Brent Venables

Sooners defensive coordinator says, "We didn't do a whole lot of that today. We wanted to make sure we were sound in what we were doing."

How do you feel the defense played overall?

I felt we were in control of the game the whole time. They did have three big plays that will (affect) those numbers (stats). But I really felt our guys controlled the game, controlled the line of scrimmage, made a bunch of stops on third down and made some tremendous stops in the red zone to hold them to field goals.

Why do you feel this week was one of your better defensive outings this season?

I've said even though some of the bad things have gone on and the inconsistencies, it was simple, easy stuff. It was us more than it was them. It's no disrespect to our opponents ... but we said we needed to focus on us, play with discipline, play with consistency and technique and trust the call.

Were you pleased to have a solid outing despite few blitz calls?

We didn't do a whole lot of that today. We wanted to make sure we were sound in what we were doing. We chose our spots when we brought pressure. When we did it was pretty good.
