EDMOND — An 8-year-old Edmond girl law enforcement officers feared for two weeks was in danger was found safe Friday in an Oklahoma City apartment.
Dylana Smith was reported missing Oct. 15 from Ida Freeman Elementary School.
She was thought to be with her biological mother, Dominic Renee Smith, 25, who lost her parental rights in August.
"It was a dangerous situation," Edmond Police Chief Bob Ricks said after a joint news conference with the FBI and Oklahoma City police.
The girl was described as tired and scared.
The girl has been turned over to the state Department of Human Services.
Ricks said he expects her to be returned to her aunt and legal guardian.
She was not taken for medical treatment after she was found about 5:30 a.m. at the Windsor Village Apartments, 2500 N Sterling Ave., Ricks said.
"She is a great kid," Ricks said.
"She was concerned about everything going on. It is overwhelming almost to the point she couldn't put it together."
Dominic Smith was arrested at a different apartment complex on a charge of child stealing. She was being held Friday in the Oklahoma County jail on $50,000 bail.
