; recently was selected as "Best Website" and The Oklahoman and its website placed in five other categories of the annual Southern Newspaper Publishers Association contest.

NewsOK won in the "50,000 and over" circulation category, the largest one in the contest. SNPA gives its top prize to the website with the best overall approach.

"In determining awards in this category," SNPA says, "judges didn't consider how many hits a website attracts. Instead, they looked at the overall Internet experience that a reader coming to the page should expect to have. Honors were awarded based on ease of navigation, search capabilities, attractive design, a promotional avenue for the print product, plus any extras offered by the site."

Kelly Dyer Fry, vice president of the News and Information Center, said: "Peer recognition is always important to us, but reader affirmation matters most. NewsOK has steadily grown through the years and that is the best honor we can receive."
