Canadian Valley Technology Center's robotics team seeks donations

BY KELLY ARNOLD Published: November 6, 2010

Students from the Canadian Valley Technology Center's pre-engineering program at the Cowan campus in Yukon are asking local businesses and individuals for donations to pay for their team's entry in this year's FIRST Robotics competition.

The team needs to raise about $10,000 by Dec. 3 to pay for the registration fee, building materials, electrical and mechanical components and team T-shirts. For any donations of $250 to $499, the donor's name will appear on the team's T-shirts and a sticker will be placed on the robot. For donations of $500 or more, the donor's name also will be placed on the team's banner.

This is the third year for the team to compete in the competition.

The FIRST Robotics team consists of about 20 Canadian Valley Technology Center pre-engineering students. This year's competition kicks off Jan. 8. The team will have six weeks to build the robot and then official competitions start mid-March. The Canadian Valley team last year placed 14th out 51 teams statewide.

To make a monetary donation or to become a mentor, or for more information regarding the FIRST Robotics competition or the pre-engineering program, call Bryan Hawk, pre-engineering instructor at the Yukon campus, at 345-3355.
