The Oklahoman/NewsOK.com has been named one of only two finalists for a national online award.
Our continuing coverage of the May 10 tornado outbreak merited the finalist honor in the Online News Association's "Breaking News, Small Site." The only other finalist was The Tennessean (tennessean.com) for its coverage of the Nashville flooding.
Here is ONA's description of the category: "This category honors digital coverage throughout a 72-hour period of a breaking-news event or development. Judges will weigh evidence of exceptional journalism under deadline pressure within the 72-hour period following the original event. They will also weigh clear presentation through user interface, interactivity, use of social tools and creative use of the medium."
The winners will be announced at a banquet Oct. 30 in Washington.
Last year, we also were a finalist in "Breaking News" as well as "General Excellence."
