Oklahoma County's district attorney revealed during the two-day hearing in pharmacist Jerome Jay Ersland's murder case that he has evidence the first trial judge in the case took a bribe.

The prosecutor, David Prater, testified Monday that the pharmacist's lead attorney, Irven Box, gave District Judge Tammy Bass-LeSure a purse.

Prater said Tuesday he could not expand on his comment at this time.

The Oklahoman has learned independently that the accusation is that Box gave the judge an expensive Coach bag.

Bass-LeSure denied the accusation. “No, I didn't take a purse from Irven Box,” she said Tuesday.

Box said Tuesday that Prater acted unprofessional and juvenile “when he blurted out that … and I won't dignify it with an answer.”

Bass-LeSure stepped down from the case Aug. 31 when prosecutors complained she couldn't be fair. Prosecutors alleged she had shown favoritism to one of the pharmacist's four attorneys.
