Oklahoma's incoming attorney general will announce his plans to join other states in a legal challenge against the federal government over the new federal health care law.

Republican Attorney General-elect Scott Pruitt is expected to announce his plans to join the challenge during a press conference on Friday.

Pruitt's opposition to the new health care law and what he described as an overreaching federal government was the cornerstone of his campaign. He has promised to create a new “federalism unit” within the attorney general's office to push back against federal mandates and policies that he thinks pose an unnecessary burden on individual states.

A former state senator, Pruitt will officially take office on Monday. He replaces outgoing Democratic Attorney General Drew Edmondson, who stepped down and ran unsuccessfully for governor.
