— A Bethany man told police investigators he stabbed his wife to death after she confronted him about looking at pornography, then shopped for golf equipment and attended a basketball tournament before returning home to call 911.

Reginald Scott Bartlett, 58, remained in the Oklahoma County jail without bail Monday on a murder complaint in the Saturday stabbing death of Cathy Bartlett, 57. He has not been charged.

Bartlett told police he had been viewing pornography on his computer when his wife came into the room, according to an affidavit filed Monday in Oklahoma County District Court. He said she shouted at him about a bank statement because she thought he was buying pornography. He said she slapped him on the side of the head.

“According to him (Bartlett), she had confronted him about that type of activity before,” Bethany Police Chief Phil Cole said. “He certainly didn't indicate that any of those were violent confrontations.”

Reginald Bartlett was rolling around on the living room floor when police arrived at their home at 7600 NW 25 about 6:35 p.m. Saturday, police officer Angelo Orefice wrote in the affidavit. His wife was found on the floor in a bedroom and had numerous stab wounds to her body.

After confessing to the crime several hours later, Bartlett told police he had “snapped,” grabbed a knife and stabbed his wife repeatedly. He then pulled off some of her clothes to make it look like she had been raped and staged a robbery, Orefice wrote.

Then he went to a sporting goods store and to the tournament at Southern Nazarene University before returning home to call 911.

“Somebody broke in. They killed her. Oh God,” Bartlett said in the phone call, which was released Monday to the media.

Bartlett told police he is “a sick individual” and is addicted to pornography.

Orefice wrote that Bartlett told police several times he loved his wife. He had scratch marks on his arms and neck and at first said they came from machinery he used at his job, but later said they probably came from his wife as he attacked her.

Bartlett told investigators he did a bad thing and deserved to die and didn't know how he was going to face his family.

Police who were first on the scene said they did not notice any signs of forced entry.

“Right away, our investigators saw some things that led them to believe this was inconsistent with a burglary,” Cole said. “The nature of the wounds to the deceased woman indicated more of a rage situation.”
