First Fidelity Bank has hired former NBA player Desmond Mason as spokesman for the company.
Mason, an artist and former Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma City Thunder player, will appear on the bank's behalf at client events and in advertising campaigns.
Mason is a Texas native who chose to return to Oklahoma after retiring from the NBA in 2009. He played nine seasons of professional basketball, including a stint with the New Orleans Hornets when they played their home games in Oklahoma City. A first-round pick of the Seattle SuperSonics in 2000, Mason won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2001.
This year, Mason will open an art studio in Oklahoma City. Last year, he and his wife, Andrea, opened an exercise studio called barre3 in the Classen Curve area.
First Fidelity CEO Lee Symcox said Oklahomans will identify with Mason as a family man and hardworking small-business owner.
“We've never had a spokesperson before, but when we met Desmond and his wife, we knew they would be a perfect fit for the bank, and that Oklahomans would identify with them as a family in need of the best banking products,” Symcox said. “Everyone knows about Desmond the basketball player, so we're excited for people to meet Desmond the businessman, artist and father.”
