— When Steven Pledger gets hot, the Sooners usually win.

The sophomore shooting guard has never been hotter than he was Saturday night at Hilton Coliseum.

Pledger scored 12 of his career-high 38 points in overtime to lead Oklahoma to an 82-76 win, the Sooners' first road win of the season.

"It took a really special performance," said OU coach Jeff Capel. "That's as good as I've seen from any kid since I've been here. He scored, he hit threes, he drove it. He got to the free-throw line, he hit floaters. He did a really good job."

Pledger drained a career high seven 3-pointers, was 12-of-20 from the field and 7-of-8 at the line with two steals and no turnovers.

"Me and my father we always talk about maximizing shots," Pledger said. "He's told me it shouldn't take 40 shots to get 40 points. It took just 20 shots to get 38 points tonight. It felt great."

After leading most of the game, the Sooners played catch-up in the final six minutes but tied it 67-67 on a Pledger 3-pointer with 35.4 seconds left.

Iowa State scored the first basket of overtime, but Pledger scored 10 consecutive OU points on a fast-break basket, two 3-pointers and a steal to give the Sooners a 77-72 lead. They would never trail again.

"We showed tremendous character," Capel said. "And what can you say about the way Pledger played? He made so many huge plays for us."

Iowa State (14-8, 1-6) took its first lead (58-56) with just under seven minutes to play. The Cyclones' largest lead was 67-61, but they didn't score the final 3 1/2 minutes of regulation.
