Some recruits switch schools on Signing Day. Some don't commit until the last minute.
And then there's Bishop McGuinness soccer star Abbey Akin. There was no drama. Not this year, not even last year. Akin has known since her sophomore year that she was headed to Oklahoma State, and she made it official Wednesday by signing with the Cowgirls.
“It's an amazing feeling right now,” Akin said. “My grandparents and just about everybody else in my family, except my parents, are from there.”
OSU was the first school to offer Akin, and she didn't need to hear from anybody else the last two years. Akin accepted in August of her sophomore season.
“There were a couple of times when I thought about exploring other options, but I know this is the right fit for me.”
Akin is one of the top forwards in the state.
