— Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken, defensive coordinator Bill Young and special teams coordinator Joe DeForest will make $400,000 this season, an OSU source confirmed on Tuesday.

Those salaries make the Cowboys' coordinators among the highest paid assistants in the Big 12. Young and DeForest both were pursued by other schools since the Cowboys' Alamo Bowl win but will remain in Stillwater, while Monken was hired last week to replace former offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. Holgorsen, Young and DeForest made $360,000 in 2010.

Recently hired Texas coordinators Bryan Harsin (offense) and Manny Diaz (defense) are scheduled to make $625,000 apiece in 2011, making them the highest-paid assistants in the Big 12.

Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables is scheduled to make $440,000 in 2011 and Texas A&M defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter made $400,000 in 2010.

Offensive and defensive coordinators at Kansas (Chuck Long, Carl Torbush) and Texas Tech (Neal Brown and James Willis) each made $350,000 in 2010.

Recently promoted co-offensive coordinators Jay Norvell and Josh Heupel of Oklahoma will make $330,000 apiece in 2011.

Will Muschamp was the highest paid assistant in 2010, making $900,000 as a coach-in-waiting/defensive coordinator at Texas before being named the head coach at Florida.

Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn will likely be the highest paid offensive assistant coach in 2011, having signed a three-year deal earlier this year that will pay him $1.3 million annually. Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is set to make $850,000 in 2011, making him the highest-paid defensive assistant coach in the nation.
