The 10 best returning tailbacks in college football for 2011:

1. LaMichael James, Oregon: Heisman finalist rushed for 21 TDs and led nation in rushing (1,731 yards).

2. Trent Richardson, Alabama: In two seasons backing up Mark Ingram, has 1,451 yards rushing and 14 TDs.

3. Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina: 17 touchdowns as a Gamecock freshman.

4. Bobby Rainey, Western Kentucky: Chris Johnson came from East Carolina; why not Rainey from WKU?

5. James White, Wisconsin: Badgers always have running machines; White gained 1,052 yards in part-time duty as a freshman.

6. Chris Polk, Washington: 177 yards vs. Nebraska in Holiday Bowl capped great season.

7. Michael Dyer, Auburn: Title-game performance (143 yards rushing, including gains of 37 and 16 yards on game-winning drive) against Oregon birthed a star.

8. Ronnie Hillman, San Diego State: Marshall Faulk's alma mater has another star tailback.

9. Cyrus Gray, Texas A&M: Ran for 1,133 yards last season, including 122 vs. Oklahoma.

10. Lance Dunbar, North Texas: Dan McCarney has a runner to build around.
