OU women's basketball notebook: Danielle Robinson joins rare club

BY MIKE BALDWIN, Staff Writer, Published: March 11, 2011

Compiling seven assists and one steal, OU senior point guard Danielle Robinson became the third player in Division I women's history to compile 2,000 points, 700 assists and 300 steals in a career.

Nancy Lieberman (Old Dominion) was the first. Dawn Staley (Virginia) was the other nearly 20 years ago.

"Whatever she does for the rest of her life, she's part of the club," said OU coach Sherri Coale. "None of the rest of us can even get an invite to a pre-party to that club. I look at it ... I got to coach this kid who's mentioned alongside Nancy Lieberman and Dawn Staley. Are you kidding me? Special stuff."

Robinson has scored 2,085 points, collected 704 assists and 300 steals.

The Sooners were 4-of-19 beyond the arc. Whitney Hand scored a game-high 21 points and was 3-of-10 on 3-pointers. The rest of the team was 1-of-9.

Coale specifically pointed to Hand's missed 3-pointer with just under 16 minutes left that would have given OU the lead.

"You watch games on TV. I do it just like you guys," Coale said. "(You say), 'If this one goes in...' And if it then goes in, the game goes this direction. If it doesn't (go in) it might go the other direction. We've had several of those. I've felt that way a lot this year."
