OU report card: Ball security issues get Brandon Williams some extra practice time

BY BERRY TRAMEL Published: April 16, 2011

BALL SECURITY: C

Freshman Brandon Williams lost a fumble and all three QBs threw an interception, though Aaron Colvin's pick was off Drew Allen's 50-yard heave on the final play of the first half. “The ball is everything,” Bob Stoops said. Don't believe it? After the game, running backs coach Cale Gundy had Williams on the practice field, running through a ball-security drill.

COMEBACK RECEIVERS: A

When last we saw Dejuan Miller, he was about to be injured in practice before the Missouri game and lost for the season. When last we heard from Jaz Reynolds, he was suspended for knuckleheadedness on Twitter. Both were back Saturday and played well. Miller had six catches for 62 yards and a touchdown; Reynolds had four catches for 67 yards.

RED-ZONE OFFENSE: C

The offenses penetrated the defenses' 20-yard line six times but came away with just three touchdowns, to go with six field goals. And the offenses' TDs came on plays of 16, 11 and 17, so we never really saw the goal-line offense.

PREGAME INTRODUCTIONS: B

Always good to see the former players introduced on the video board, but some need to work on their delivery. Each player introduced himself, most gave their years and some threw in accomplishments like “national championship.” Hey, the fans know in what years national titles were won. Better to be creative, like ... “Scott Hill, never lost to Texas.”

CELEBRATIONS: D

Demontre Hurst danced in the end zone after intercepting a Blake Bell pass. Suppose Kenny Stills was asking Bob Stoops what gives? And Travis Lewis wore an all-red outfit to the press conference to celebrate his fourth straight spring victory, proclaiming he would monitor the situation to make sure no White team members ate steak when they were supposed to be eating beans and franks. Hey guys, this was an intrasquad game.
