The rivalry between Millwood and Douglass is one of the biggest on the east side of Oklahoma City. These two high schools battle each other to figure out who's better on the band field, football field and basketball court in this rivalry that has been going on for years. The battle started with the bands and then later moved to athletics.

This rivalry can sometimes exist within families or groups of friends.

Students know when they arrive at either school that Millwood High School or Douglass High School is the team to beat.

“The rivalry decides who dominates Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard,” said Terrell Engmann, a former Douglass Trojan. “Basically, who really owns it.”

Millwood and Douglass have other battles against other schools. Star Spencer and Northeast high schools are out to beat them as well, but it's not the same. The battle for the right to say they are “The Pride of the East Side” is a driving force.

“Having a family member attend the rivalry school is a little difficult because you want your school to be the best, but, at the same time, you want to cheer for your family member,” said Alesha Engmann, another former Douglass student.

Millwood Falcon Dominique Chester echoes that sentiment.

“Sometimes my cousins and I brag about which high school is the best and everything,” he said. “It never seriously comes in between us.”

At the end of the day, both schools come together and form a friendship. On the court they are out there to do one thing and is that is to win. Off the court, it is totally different. They are commonly brought together by sharing the same boulevard on the same side of town.
