The pharmacist convicted of murder for fatally shooting a robber has been moved to prison.

Jerome Jay Ersland, 59, was moved Monday from the Oklahoma County jail to the Lexington Assessment and Reception Center, records show.

Photos posted on the state Corrections Department's website show his head was shaved.

The move came after a judge on Monday ordered Ersland to serve his entire life term. His attorney had asked that Ersland be put only on probation.

“It's injustice of a monumental proportion,” Ersland said afterward.

A jury in May chose the life term as punishment. Ersland was convicted of first-degree murder for fatally shooting an unarmed robber inside the Reliable Discount Pharmacy in south Oklahoma City two years ago.

Prosecutors said the fallen robber, Antwun “Speedy” Parker, 16, was unconscious from a shot to the head when Ersland got a second gun and shot him five more times. Prosecutors at trial called the final shots an execution. Ersland said he was defending himself and two female co-workers. He claimed the masked robber was getting back up.

A second robber, Jevontai Ingram, had fled. Ingram, then 14, did have a gun.

Ersland, of Chickasha, had been free on bail but was jailed May 26 immediately after the verdict was announced.

He is appealing.

At the Lexington facility, during the reception period of approximately 10 to 30 days, corrections officials determine where an inmate will be assigned.
