— Two-a-days are over. Classes start Monday.

And Lane Johnson is still in the running for a starting job.

This is the same Lane Johnson that was running at third-team defensive end when Oklahoma opened spring practices.

Johnson and Donald Stephenson, the returning starter at left tackle, alternated with the first two units throughout two-a-days. This week, Johnson will get a look at right tackle.

Regardless how the competition shakes out, Stephenson, Johnson and right tackle Daryl Williams will rotate. The Sooners prefer to keep players fresh in their fast-paced, no-huddle scheme.

Long and athletic, Johnson showed he can mix it up in the trenches during OU's final major scrimmage on Thursday.

“He's a tough country kid,” said offensive tackles coach Bruce Kittle. “He got a bloody nose. He had blood streaming down his face and never missed a play. It was a bar fight kind of thing. And he's in there swinging away. We're very pleased with him.”
