Tailgaters elsewhere on campus have various names for the tailgaters directly south of Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

The swarm.

The drunk den.

The south 40.

But before the Sooners creamed Idaho State, the folks lining the sidewalks south of Lindsey Street were self-proclaimed mud dodgers.

"Gross," one young woman muttered as she hopped across a mud puddle in the sidewalk. She was wearing cowboy boots and a crimson dress covered by a bright yellow poncho.

The rain made mushy mud of the ground. Tailgaters crammed into huddles on islands of somewhat-dry land beneath tents.

"I tried to get some mud wrestling going, but no one was down," said student Kyle Arnold, who said he lives in the dorms a few blocks away.

The area is one of the most popular tailgating spots for students. It's like walking through a dozen college house parties at once.
