With new coach Lloyd Smith coming in from El Paso, Texas, Northwest Classen is focused on a fresh start with hopes of turning the program around. Smith has some talent to work with, as well, including a strong, fast receiver in Terry Arnold:

How has the team responded to the new coach?

You know, some of the players were skeptical at first, but he seems like he knows what he's talking about. All he can do is draw it up for us and teach us how to run it. We have to go out and perform it on Friday nights. If we come together as a team and perform as a unit, we can be victorious.

With the core of experienced players like you and quarterback Christian Gorham on the roster, do you feel the team leadership is good?

Most definitely. We've come together, because we've played, basically, for four years together. We know what everybody's capable of. We know their talents, their flaws. We're just trying to get everybody together on the same page.

What kind of progress do you think is possible this season?

I think it's gonna be a slow process, but if everybody gets on the same page, there's no telling how far we can go. The sky's the limit.
