NORMAN — Sophomore linebacker Tom Wort was the first player to wear No. 12 in honor of Austin Box, who died in May.

What was it like to lead the team out of the tunnel, wearing No. 12?

It was a special moment to be the first one to wear my friend's jersey. To get that kind of reaction from the crowd... I'm a real emotional guy. You can't expect anything more when it's that loud, that many people cheering for one of our fallen comrades.

What will be your memory of being the first to wear No. 12?

It's a special moment, something I'll never forget... I couldn't wait to get out there. All the guys were amped up. When you're playing for someone other than yourself, it puts that much more emphasis on starting the game strong.

You said you want to make Austin proud? Was this type of performance enough to make him proud?

Absolutely. But he wouldn't want us to win just one game. We've got the whole season ahead of us. That's what we're looking forward to.
