PURCELL — Senior quarterback Cole Swayze led the Purcell Dragons to a 44-20 comeback victory over Washington on Friday night after trailing by six points at halftime. Swayze threw for 201 yards and rushed for 163 with three touchdowns and one interception.

Purcell trailed 13-7 at the half before finding its stride. The Dragons scored 23 points in the third quarter, with 12 coming from senior running back Michael Hazer. He ran the ball twice for 71 yards and two touchdowns.

“People got their blocks, and I ran the ball as well as I (could),” Hazer said.

Swayze put the game out of reach after running 84 yards on a keeper for the TD early in the fourth quarter.

“We kind of struggled in the first half, but we knew we had to come in the second half and make a statement, and that's what we did,” Swayze said. “We pulled together and did things right.”

Washington opened scoring late in the first quarter. Sophomore quarterback Brock Harmon hit junior wide receiver Cooper Treadaway for a 31-yard touchdown.

Purcell responded in the second quarter as Swayze found senior running back Dylan Wilson for a 28-yard touchdown pass.

On Washington's next possession, Harmon hit running back Robert Rhynes for a 71-yard touchdown. Harmon completed five of his 16 passes for 144 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

“We gave up too many scoring opportunities early in the game,” Purcell coach Mike Wilson said.
