Luke Ward, Central Oklahoma club hockey team

*Position: Center

*Height, weight: 5-8, 155

*Class: Junior

*Hometown: Edmond (Santa Fe High School)

*Scouting report: UCO coach Craig McAlister raves about the on-ice growth of Ward, who was mentored as a youngster by Mike McEwen, a Stanley Cup champion as a New York Islanders defenseman and former coach of the Oklahoma City Blazers. Ward has matured, and his progress is also noticeable in the statistics. He's gone from five assists in 20 games as a redshirt freshman to eight goals and 15 points in 37 games last season as a sophomore. Ward is an Edmond Santa Fe High School graduate. He did not play any sports while at Santa Fe other than club hockey. Ward attends UCO on an academic scholarship with plans to major in finance.

*Where you can watch Luke: The Bronchos begins their regular season as an American Collegiate Hockey Association team at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday against a club team from Niagara (N.Y.). The game will be at the Arctic Edge, 14613 N. Kelly in Edmond. Tickets for the game are $7; kids ages 5 and under are admitted free.

*How do you compare ACHA club hockey to NCAA varsity hockey or the Blazers, when they played in the Double-A CHL?
