DAVIS — The Chickasaw Nation is celebrating the opening of a new welcome center and a chocolate factory along Interstate 35 near Davis.

Tribal and community officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday at the intersection of I-35 and State Highway 7.

Chickasaw Gov. Bill Anoatubby says the new, larger Bedre Fine Chocolate Factory and the welcome center are part of the tribe's efforts to "create a new destination for visitors to the area."

The 34,600-square-foot chocolate factory will have visitor tours and a hands-on area for children. It is expected to open in late 2012.

The Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center will be about 5,500 square feet and feature a dog park, playground and a gift shop with original Chickasaw artwork.
