OU football notebook: Sooners' home loss ends 39-game streak

The home loss was OU's first in six years, ending a 39-game home winning streak. The Sooners, 75-3 at home in the Bob Stoops era, were viewed as near unbeatable on Owen Field.

“Too much is said about it like it can't happen,” Stoops said. “I told the players, anyone we play the rest of the year will whip us if we don't play better. They just flat-out beat us. It'll happen again if we play like we did (Saturday) night.”

Defensive end Frank Alexander said the worst mistake would be to dwell on the loss.

“We have to finish hard,” Alexander said. “We can't let this game tear us up from finishing the season. You have to keep going.”

HUNNICUTT MISSES TWICE

Michael Hunnicutt had made 10 of his previous 11 field goal attempts but missed a 39-yard attempt in the second quarter, then clanked a 28-yard attempt off the right upright in the waning minutes, failing to make it a one-possession game.

“He's been good for us,” Stoops said. “He's a young guy. He has a bright future. He just missed it late.”
