EL RENO — Attorneys met Friday at the Canadian County Courthouse to schedule a preliminary hearing for Rebecca Bryan, who is accused of killing her husband, the Nichols Hills fire chief, Sept. 20 at their Mustang home.
Prosecutor Paul Hesse said her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 25.
Bryan, 52, is being held in the Canadian County jail. No bail has been set.
She is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Keith Bryan. The state medical examiner's office said he died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Bryan told a 911 dispatcher a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt shot her husband and then apologized. She said the man told her the fire chief should have hired him.
Investigators said they found a .380-caliber handgun, a spent shell casing and a glove in a clothes dryer in the house. Ammunition and a handgun box were found between the mattress and box springs on what appeared to be her side of the bed, officials said.
In a search warrant, Oklahoma State Bureau Investigation agent Shawn Wright said Bryan called her ex-lover before the shooting and said she “was going to be inheriting a significant amount of money.”
The agent said Bryan had an extramarital affair with the man from July 2009 to January 2010. He said the man ended the affair, but she continued to contact him.
