MEEKER — Meeker Schools in Lincoln County are closed Tuesday due to Monday night earthquake damage.

The latest quake brought down ceiling tiles and the metal framework in classrooms as an 8:47 p.m. earthquake shook the building, said Fire Chief Robert Ballard.

Ballard was in a business meeting in Meeker City Hall when the tables moved and the building shook Monday night. There was also damage at City Hall and to two other structures in Meeker.

The school's drop-down ceilings are being repaired Tuesday, he said.

Walls on a warehouse were damaged and another abandoned structure was damaged Monday night

Ballard, who also serves as Meeker emergency manager, said the city has been rocked by numerous earthquakes since Saturday.

“You never know where the next one is going to be,” Ballard said. “We're bracing ourselves the best we can to protect our infrastructure.”

The Lincoln County area has been hit by numerous earthquakes since Saturday, including a 5.6 magnitude quake reported Saturday night in the area.
