Class 6A state championship
Broken Arrow (12-1) vs. Tulsa Union (12-1)
When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday
Where: Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater
Plot: Broken Arrow has long been fighting to get into the same category with Jenks and Union as 6A powers, and this is its chance. The Tigers lost to Union, 21-14, on the road in Week 3. In winning 10 consecutive games since then, they have looked dominant at times but shaky in others. In the playoffs, though, Broken Arrow has been on fire since a slow start against Bixby in the first round, outscoring opponents 135-43. Union has rebounded from a shocking loss to Owasso in Week 6 to win its district title and position itself for a fourth consecutive championship.
Starring: Broken Arrow has playmakers all over the place on offense, especially its running back tandem of Devon Thomas and Cameron Wrenn, who have combined for more than 2,900 yards rushing. Quarterback Hunter Atyia went down with an injury in that loss to Owasso but since returning has been fantastic. In last week's 30-29 win over Jenks, Atyia threw for three touchdowns and ran for another.
The pick: Tulsa Union 21, Broken Arrow 17
Another tight game between the two, but the Redskins become just the second school to win four consecutive football titles in the largest class and extend to 16 the Union-Jenks stranglehold on the 6A title.
