— Police arrested a man and a woman and took three children into state custody during a methamphetamine bust near a Durant school.

About 3 grams of meth, scales, syringes and other paraphernalia were seized Thursday along with a small amount of the prescription painkiller Oxycodone.

Angel Davenport, 26, and Paul Gaither, 32 were arrested on complaints of drug and drug paraphernalia possession and possession with intent to distribute within 2,000 feet of a school, Durant police Lt. Carrie Wyrick said.

A 3-year-old child and two 20-month-old children who were in the home at the time were taken into Department of Human Services custody.

Officers who went to serve a search warrant got no answer after knocking on the door Thursday night so they entered the residence forcibly, Wyrick said. Davenport was taken into custody while trying to run to the bathroom to flush a plastic baggy, Wyrick said.

The residence in the 900 block of W Main is about 1,500 feet from Robert E. Lee Elementary School, Wyrick said.
