OSU had 1,700 tickets remaining last Sunday night, when the Cowboys’ bowl destination was revealed, and about 850 left last Monday. Most bowl tickets were presold.

The No. 3 Cowboys are making their first BCS bowl appearance after winning their first Big 12 title. OSU’s opponent, Stanford, is in a BCS bowl for the second consecutive season after playing in the 2011 Orange Bowl.

Stanford has sold out its allotment of tickets. Rich Muschell, the school’s assistant athletic director of ticket sales, said it was much easier to sell its allotment this year compared to last year’s Orange Bowl appearance because of the travel distance and the strong Stanford alumni base in southern California.

“(Miami) is a great trip,” Muschell said of the Orange Bowl. “But it’s a long, long way.”

The Fiesta Bowl will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 2 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
