SHAWNEE — A McLoud third-grade teacher is accused of providing child pornography starring her young students to a former Oklahoma Baptist University professor who now lives in Pennsylvania.
More details about the child pornography case were released Thursday in a 10-page court affidavit claiming Kimberly Ann Crain set up a makeshift tent in her classroom where she had students undress and pose for photos to send to Gary Joseph Doby.
Authorities say they have retrieved more than 100 sexually explicit photographs of girls ages 7-9 from the schoolteacher's cellphone and computers, and have identified as many as 14 alleged victims so far.
Doby, 65, of Bloomsburg, was arrested Thursday morning as he tried to drive away from his home with a suitcase in the passenger's seat. FBI agents last week searched his home, although law enforcement officials are not disclosing what was seized or found.
He was charged Thursday in Pottawatomie County District Court, along with Crain, 48, of Shawnee.
Crain faces 23 felony charges, including eight counts of manufacturing juvenile pornography, 10 counts of lewd molestation, two counts of possession of juvenile pornography, aggravated possession of child pornography and conspiracy to manufacture juvenile pornography.
Doby is charged with eight counts of manufacturing juvenile pornography and one count of conspiracy to manufacture juvenile pornography.
District Attorney Richard Smothermon said he's spoken with prosecutors in the U.S. attorney's office in Oklahoma City and the two could potentially face federal charges too.
Each is jailed on $1 million bail, and local prosecutors are in the process of getting Doby extradited from his home state to Oklahoma.
Former OBU professor
Authorities say Crain and Doby met at Oklahoma Baptist University when Doby was a professor from 1985 to 1987.
Marty O'Gwynn, assistant to the university president, said Doby was an assistant professor of education in the teacher education division and Crain majored in health and physical education. He said there is no record of her being one of Doby's students.
Doby retired three years ago from Bloomsburg University as an associate professor in early childhood development.
Court records suggest the two were involved in a romantic relationship. Police found photographs of Doby's genitals and messages of a sexual nature to Crain on her computer at school, court records indicate.
