Oklahoma death row inmate attempts suicide

McALESTER — An Oklahoma death row inmate who is to be executed Jan. 5 has been returned to prison after receiving treatment for cuts to his neck in an apparent suicide attempt.

A local newspaper reports that 49-year-old Gary Roland Welch was found bleeding in his cell on Friday. He was returned to prison from a hospital on Sunday.
