Barons notebook: Three players shake off the rust after missing games

by Ryan Aber Published: December 27, 2011

Three Barons returned Tuesday after missing significant time.

Teemu Hartikainen played his first game since Nov. 26, missing 10 consecutive games with an upper-body injury.

Philippe Cornet returned after missing five straight with concussion-like symptoms and Josh Green came back after missing five straight. Green missed the first four of those games due to suspension and the last due to illness.

“I thought they all looked pretty good,” Barons coach Todd Nelson said. “They showed a bit of rust but it was good for their first time back in awhile.”

Gilbert Brule, who missed the game, could be back in the lineup Wednesday.

1. Paul Szczechura, Rochester

Scored the Americans' first and third goals of the game — the second unassisted — and added an assist.

2. Ryan O'Marra, Barons

O'Marra gave the Barons their lone lead of the game, blasting a shot past Drew MacIntyre in the final minute of the second and played solid all around in the loss.

3. Drew Schiestel, Rochester

Scored the game-winning power play goal with less than two minutes remaining in overtime and assisted on the Amerks' first goal.

The game might've been the first ever for the Barons against Rochester, but at least one of the Amerks was very familiar.

Rochester goaltender Drew MacIntyre started all six games for Hamilton in last season's 4-2 Bulldogs win over the Barons in the first round of the playoffs.

Overall, MacIntyre was 5-3 against the Barons last season, with the two regular season games coming when he played for Chicago.
