One last chance in 2011 to provide additional insight into whether Mike Stoops would again come on board at Oklahoma, and brother Bob didn't offer too much. But, again, he didn't say no.
“I don't have any timetable on anything whether I do or not,” Bob Stoops said Saturday morning.
Mike attended OU's 31-14 win Friday night in the Insight Bowl. He stood on the sideline, not too far away from the head coach. But he wasn't in OU team gear and didn't have a headset.
To be clear, would Bob want Mike back?
“In the right circumstances,” he said. “You never know. But he has a lot of good opportunities.”
Asked if the upcoming coaches' convention in San Antonio might be a time of movement, he sort of shrugged.
“There's still a lot of uncertainty with jobs out there,” Bob Stoops said. “There's a bunch of them still waiting to be filled or solidified.”
Mike Stoops, fired in October as Arizona's head coach, was a co-defensive coordinator at OU from 1999-2003.
PLAYER'S FATHER RIPS NORVELL ON TWITTER, PLAYER RESPONDS
The father of senior receiver Dejuan Miller wasn't thrilled his son didn't get more snaps in his final game with OU. He went on a multiple-tweet rant late Friday, ripping receivers coach Jay Norvell. He called Norvell “flaky” and criticized other players getting multiple chances.
Stoops said Saturday he was unaware of what was said.
Miller responded later in the day.
“I won't apologize for my fathers (sic) actions,” Miller tweeted. “He knows what he did was wrong and not good timing, but it is what it is. He spoke his opinion.”
He also thanked fans for their support.
“It's been (an) up-and-down ride,” he said, “but it's made me stronger.”
In unrelated news, Norvell is considered a finalist to replace Charlie Weis as Florida's offensive coordinator.
STILL WAITING ON CONFIRMATION OF TRANSFERS
Stoops again didn't want to name the transfers, because he didn't want that to immediately detract from the bowl win.
Receivers Justin McCay and Sheldon McClain, defensive tackles Torrea Peterson and Josh Aladenoye and defensive back James Haynes did not make the bowl trip.
There could be others, still, but Stoops said behaviors had perked up in recent weeks after the others were sent packing.
