RedHawks baseball: Tony DeFrancesco to return as Oklahoma City RedHawks manager

FROM STAFF REPORTS Published: January 3, 2012

The Oklahoma City RedHawks announced their coaching staff for the 2012 season on Tuesday.

Manager Tony DeFrancesco will return for his second season in Oklahoma City after leading the RedHawks to a 68-75 record in 2011.

Joining DeFrancesco in the RedHawks dugout will be Burt Hooten, who is back for his second season as the RedHawks pitching coach and Leon Roberts, who will join the organization as the team's hitting coach.

Roberts joins the Houston Astros organization — the parent club of the RedHawks — after spending the past five seasons in the Atlanta Braves organization, including four seasons as minor league hitting instructor. He also has spent time with the Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers.

Athletic trainer Mike Freer will return for his second season with Oklahoma City, as will strength and conditioning coach Gary McCoy.

The RedHawks open the 2012 season on April 5 at 7:05 p.m. against the Memphis Redbirds at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.
