San Antonio has been a productive recruiting area for Oklahoma in recent years.

Travis Lewis is the most recent evidence of that but two other players on the Sooners' roster last year came from San Antonio — Drew Allen and Torrea Peterson.

Oklahoma hit San Antonio hard this season and it paid off quickly with Brandeis offensive lineman Kyle Marrs becoming the Sooners first commitment just a few days after signing day 2011.

Marrs (6-foot-6, 302 pounds) decided on Oklahoma despite having a father who was a big Texas fan.

“Getting a chance to (go with) Oklahoma is a dream,” Marris told the San Antonio Express-News before his senior season. “I loved the atmosphere up there. Football is everything. Everyone is into football.”

Marrs moved from right tackle to right guard as a senior and came through in a big way. He was recently named to the first team of the Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 5A All-State team.

Basketball was Marrs' sport until seventh grade, when he took up football. After his freshman season, Marrs left basketball behind but told the Express-News that his experiences there helped him with football.

“You have to be light on your feet on the offensive line,” Marrs told the paper. “When I played basketball, all the footwork, jumping and staying in shape helped me.”
