EDMOND — Edmond Santa Fe defensive end Michael Onuoha said Tuesday morning he would make his decision on signing day.
By Tuesday night, though, Onuoha couldn't wait any longer, announcing his commitment to Oklahoma with a simple tweet: “#BOOMER SOONER!!”
“The overall decision, the main reason I picked OU is because I'm closer to home. My parents will be able to come to my games,” Onuoha said. “It will be good to have somebody have my back rather than being so far away from home and having no one around for me.”
Onuoha chose the Sooners over Missouri and kept up a positive finishing wave for OU as signing day approached.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder became the third of the four Oklahoma visitors from last weekend to make his commitment to the Sooners official, joining offensive tackle Will Latu and cornerback Zack Sanchez.
The only visitor from the group that hasn't committed to the Sooners yet is junior college wide receiver Courtney Gardner, who will announce Wednesday. Gardner will choose between OU and Arkansas.
Onuoha had a breakout performance at Oklahoma's camp over the summer. He picked up interest from the Sooners, but Missouri was the only program to offer until early January.
