Big 12 football schedule: Ranking Saturdays from best to worst

A SEASON OF SATURDAYS — The Big 12 football schedule is out, finally. Here's a Saturday-by-Saturday look at the schedule, ranked from best to worst.

Any week with college football is better than a week without it. Still, some weeks are definitely better than others. Here's a look at the weeks of the Big 12 schedule, ranked best to worst:

1. Week 8 (Nov. 1-3)

OSU at Kansas State, OU at Iowa State, TCU at West Virginia, Texas at Texas Tech, Kansas at Baylor

OSU heads to Manhattan where KSU will try to avenge a loss in one of last season's best games, and the Big 12 newbies square off in Morgantown. Things often get interesting for Texas when it goes to Texas Tech, too. While this isn't a week with a bunch of traditional rivalries, it's got several juicy games.

2. Week 11 (Nov. 22-24)

OSU at OU, TCU at Texas, Baylor vs. Texas Tech (Arlington, Texas), West Virginia at Iowa State

TCU at Texas would be the marquee game most any week, but even if it moves to Thanksgiving Day, it will take a backseat to Bedlam. Think that matchup will be fun after what happened a year ago? The buildup alone could be unlike any other game on the Big 12 docket.

3. Week 12 (Dec. 1)

OU at TCU, OSU at Baylor, Texas at Kansas State, Kansas at West Virginia

The Big 12 pegged a great game for the final week of the regular season this past fall — Bedlam — and it more than filled the void left by no conference title game. It looks like the Big 12 tried to do the same again with OU at TCU and Texas at Kansas State. Who knows if either game will have national-title implications, but there's likely to be a BCS bowl berth on the line.

4. Week 9 (Nov 10)

West Virginia at OSU, Baylor at OU, Kansas State at TCU, Iowa State at Texas, Kansas at Texas Tech

The storylines will be plentiful when Dana Holgorsen, Joe DeForest and Co. return to Stillwater — and there could be a shoot-out to boot. Add in a grudge match in Norman and a purple-tinted showdown in Fort Worth, and you've got yourself a heck of a week of football.

5. Week 5 (Oct 13)

OU vs. Texas (Dallas), OSU at Kansas, West Virginia at Texas Tech, TCU at Baylor, Kansas State at Iowa State

Yes, it's OU-Texas week, but the remainder of the slate is light on great games. West Virginia at Texas Tech could be fun — a Mike Leach protégé returns to Lubbock — but a close game seems unlikely. TCU at Baylor might have some intrigue, too, — they had a heck of a game last season — but OU-Texas will have to carry some serious freight. And it usually does.
