New York Knicks star guard Jeremy Lin will make his first ABC appearance at noon Sunday when the Knicks host the Dallas Mavericks. Mike Tirico, Hubie Brown and Heather Cox are the announcers.
Since Lin's emergence as a starter, the Knicks have become a hot TV commodity. Ratings for their telecasts on MSG Network and ESPN are up 73 percent. The Lakers-Knicks telecast Feb. 10 was ESPN's most-watched Friday game this season with 3 million viewers.
ABC's second game is Orlando at Miami at 2:30 p.m. (Mike Breen, Jeff Van Gundy and Lisa Salters).
The Thunder will make its fourth ESPN appearance of the season at 7 p.m. Sunday, hosting Denver (Dave Pasch and Chris Mullin).
Jaworski odd man out
ESPN's “Monday Night Football” plans to go with a two-man booth next season with Tirico and Jon Gruden. Ron Jaworski, who had been with the show for five years, will move to the pregame show and also appear on several other NFL-themed shows on the network as part of a new five-year contract extension.
“It's bittersweet,” Jaworski told Sports Illustrated, “but I'm excited and thrilled with some of the projects moving forward.”
It will just be the sixth time in the 42-year history of “Monday Night Football” that it has had a two-person booth. Gruden, frequently rumored for head coaching vacancies, signed a five-year contract extension with the show in October.
