In “Nixon's bold decision on China ” (Commentary, Feb. 12), David Ignatius wrote that Richard Nixon approved a trip to China by the U.S. ping-pong team, thus giving the impression that Nixon had initiated a brave step. What Nixon did was reactive at best (and brave nonetheless). In fact he was responding to an invitation by China to send a ping-pong team for a visit. Today, this would be a challenging question...
