Judges from The Associated Press Sports Editors have recognized the work of The Oklahoman this week, honoring the sports staff with a department-record record four national Top 10 finishes for work done in 2011. The categories The Oklahoman excelled in were Sunday sections, daily sections, special sections and multimedia.

Results are not placed in order of finish, but The Oklahoman was included with media outlets such as The Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and New York Times. Berry Tramel earned a Top 10 finish for columnists.

“I have long known the men and women who make up the sports department for The Oklahoman and NewsOK.com are among the best in the country,” said Kelly Dyer Fry, Oklahoman Editor and Vice President of News. “Their recent honors make it official. I am proud of their talent and creativity and thrilled to count them among my colleagues. I am continually amazed by their passion and drive. Sports is our turf and we back that up every day.”

Sports Editor Mike Sherman said: “Never before has APSE so honored The Oklahoman. I have received so many positive comments from judges ... I'm so proud to be a part of this team.”
