No. 1 Hammon is back in the Class B state championship game.
But it won't really mean much to the Warriors if they don't win it this time.
Hammon beat Red Oak 50-31 Friday in the semifinals at State Fair Arena, advancing to Saturday's title game against either Lomega or Balko, who played later Friday in the other semifinal.
Last season, Hammon took an undefeated record into the title game against Corn Bible, a team the Warriors had beaten several times during the season, but lost.
This year, Hammon hasn't played Lomega or Balko this season, which coach Lance Carpenter said should help his team be more focused.
Guard Lexie Brown, Hammon's only senior, said making it back to the championship game isn't enough this time.
“I know it sounds bad, but it doesn't really mean anything if we don't win it,” Brown said. “That has been our mission all season.”
Junior Kori Barrios led Hammon (29-2) with 16 points Friday.
Red Oak's season ends with a 25-7 record.
