CHOCTAW — Second-ranked Anadarko was stingy with the basketball.

So stingy that the Warriors forced 35 Douglass turnovers and did not commit a turnover of their own until 3:50 remaining in a 90-37 rout to open the Class 4A girls state tournament on Thursday.

Anadarko went on a 21-4 run that extended from late in the first quarter past the midpoint of the second that gave it a 34-17 lead.

“That's a gamble when you got a team with that much team speed, but the whole idea is not only to get turnovers early but to get them later and wear the other team out where they can't get back on defense,” Anadarko coach Jeff Zinn said. “I think that's what played out in the second quarter. They hit a wall where they couldn't get over it and we were able to hit easy layups when turnovers started to mount.”

Anadarko (27-1) plays the Vinita-Jay wininer at 1:30 p.m. Friday in State Fair Arena.

Juniors Lakota Beatty and Kelia Pahcoddy scored 16 points apiece. Senior Kati Sullivan added 14 points and freshman Ashley Beatty also scored 12 points.

The Warriors finished with eight turnovers.

Te'Era Williams scored 17 points for Douglass, which ends the season at 15-12.
