YUKON — A 3-pointer by junior Darsha Reagle late in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in Sulphur's 45-43 victory against Salina (21-7) in the Class 3A girls' state tournament Thursday evening at Yukon High School. Reagle and junior Ashley Hughes led Sulphur (26-1) in scoring, combining for 18 total points.
Salina senior Courtney Backward's game-high 16 points propelled the Lady Cats forward. They were within one of Sulphur with less than two minutes to play after heading into the locker room down, 27-20. But the Lady Bulldogs showed grit and held off the Lady Cats' charge.
Six different players scored for Sulphur, helping it assure a spot in the semifinals against Prague at 6 p.m. Friday night at Yukon. Both teams have sustained just one loss this season.
