— No. 2 Tulsa East Central routed Altus 62-24 Thursday to advance to Friday's Class 5A semifinals.

The Cardinals will face McAlester, which beat Del City earlier Thursday, at 6 p.m. at the Mabee Center in Tulsa.

Midway through the first quarter, the Cardinals and Bulldogs were tied at 7. But from that point until halftime, East Central (25-3) outscored Altus 20-3 to gain a comfortable lead.

Marcia Reed led East Central with 14 points. Altus' leading scorer was Mahogany Nelms, who had 13.

East Central hasn't lost since a 55-48 setback to Class 6A No. 3 Jenks in the Jenks/Union Invitational on Jan. 20.

For Altus (17-10), the loss marks the end to a very successful turnaround season. The Bulldogs were 6-15 a year ago.
