Audit prompts investigation into agent's activities.

A Lawton insurance agent surrendered her license after signing a written confession to embezzlement, authorities said.

Amanda Sue Wilson came under suspicion after an audit revealed a number of discrepancies in Wilson's insurance transactions from October 2009 to February 2011, the state Insurance Department said.

Insurance Department investigators found that Wilson created unauthorized checks and credit and debit charges, Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak said. The investigation found that Wilson also diverted escrow checks from home closings and misapplied premium refunds and payments to cover cash she had embezzled, authorities said.

About 100 policyholders lost nearly $62,000.

Agency investigators provided evidence to Comanche County prosecutors, who filed a criminal charge.
