A hit-and-run of two women Thursday night near the University of Central Oklahoma sent both to the hospital, authorities said.

UCO Assistant Police Chief Ted Jones said the women, who are UCO students, were walking about 8:30 p.m. eastbound on Ayers Avenue near Chambers Library, 100 N University Drive. They were in the street when a dark-colored van struck them both, Jones said.

Witnesses told police the van was speeding, he said.

Lara O'Leary, spokeswoman for Emergency Medical Services Authority, said both women were taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. One was in serious condition, while the other woman's injuries weren't considered an emergency, O'Leary said.
