Oklahoma City University biology major Emily Sanders has received the 2012 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. The scholarship program honors outstanding students and encourages them to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences or engineering. Sanders, a junior, plans to pursue M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in molecular biology and conduct research while seeing patients as a physician.
NORMAN —Three Moore Norman Technology Center automotive technology students have earned scholarships. Daniel Flores earned a $1,000 scholarship and Caleb Smith a $500 scholarship through the school's business and education council. The funds can be used to buy automotive industry tools or for continuing education. The $500 Michael Walls Scholarship, honoring an automotive technology student who died in 1991, was presented by Kathy Walls, Michael Walls' mother, to Southmoore High School senior Kyle Lindsay.
Rachel Wood, a senior at Mount St. Mary High School, received the Spears Scholars Leadership Program scholarship from Oklahoma State University. To be admitted into the program, incoming freshmen must meet multiple requirements, including a minimum ACT score of 25 and leadership experience.
