BASEBALL

Bill Tipton VIII

When: Wednesday-Saturday

Where: Carl Albert, Shawnee and Yukon


The story: Of the 14 teams participating, five are in the top 10 in Class 6A (No. 5 Yukon), 5A (No. 2 Carl Albert, No. 6 Shawnee, No. 7 McAlester) or 4A (No. 6 Weatherford). Westmoore, McGuinness and Blanchard are among the other participants. The championship game will be played at 5 p.m. Saturday at Carl Albert.

GOLF

Del City Invitational (girls)

When: Thursday

Where: Trosper

The story: Many of the top teams from around the metro area will be at Trosper for the Del City Invitational, which often produces some low scores. Among the entries is Mustang's June Tigert, who shot 61 at the course in a tournament last summer. Trosper also will host the 6A west regional tournament.

SOCCER

Putnam City North at Edmond Santa Fe (boys and girls)

When: 6 p.m. (girls); 8 p.m. (boys)

Where: Edmond Santa Fe HS

The story: Both the boys and girls games are top-10 matchups.

TENNIS

Mustang Tournament

When: Monday, starting at 8 a.m.

Where: OKC Tennis Center

The story: Both boys and girls teams will compete in this tournament. Tournaments at the OKC Tennis Center are great preparation for state, which is held there.

TRACK

John Jacobs Invitational

When: 10 a.m. Friday

Where: Norman

The story: The annual John Jacobs Invitational at OU is regularly one of the biggest meets in the state and will draw a large crowd once again. But Friday is a busy day across the state, including a meet at the new Yukon High School track, which will be the site of the Class 5A and 6A state meets next month.
