Harding Fine Arts Academy's drama department will present the musical “Hairspray” at 7 p.m. Friday and April 28 at the school, 3333 N Shartel.
Directed and choreographed by drama teacher Brenda Williams, the show features seniors Ryan Smith as Edna Turnblad, Austin Elliott as Wilbur Turnblad, Brooke Bradley as Penny Pingleton, C.J. Walker as Seaweed, Collin Pulley as Corny Collins, Christa Whetstone as Velma and Alexis Ward as Motormouth Maybelle, according to a news release from the school.
Junior Alyssa Boston will make her stage debut as Tracy Turnblad.
“We have a great cast featuring 35 students from grades 9 through 12,” Williams said. “They have been rehearsing since January and are ready to rock your socks off!”
The musical is set in 1962 and tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, who is transformed into a teen celebrity on a local television dance program, “The Corny Collins Show.” Can she win the love of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate the television show without denting her hairdo?Call the school office at 702-4322 for tickets or visit...
